Aussie Billionaire and all round rich guy, Rupert Murdoch has struck up a deal that will see the FX cable network get exclusive airing rights to "The Blair Witch Project" on TV. How much $$$??? Well the deal is that Rupert will pay 15% of the domestics box office takings to screen the film. So if the film makes 60 million as being forecasted. The figure for Rupert buying TV rights could be as high as 9 million dollars. Not bad for a film that cost 40,000 bucks to make. (CSO)

A new flick is being touted by the Hollywood Reporter as a cross between se7en and The Shining. It is titled "Frailty". The story is about the father of two teens that have a special ability to identify evil demons hidden within the average everyday person. The father finds this out and as a result goes on a mission to kill the evil doers. The sons than realise that their father has a demon inside him as well. That is where the story really goes off.. (CSO)

Lochlyn Munro, Jonathon Abrahams and Cheri Oteri, are joining the cast of the Horror spoof, "Scream If You Know What I Did Last Summer.". The Film is slated for and October 13 release. (CSO)

Above is a great shot of work on the latest installment of GODZILLA 2000 from TOHO. It's the man in the suit, on the set messin' with Tokyo's Nuclear power. I love the old ways, they still look to be the best ways. (CSO)

"Rollerball" will not be shot in the future. Instead John McTiernan is scouting locations through out Canada that can look like Central Asia. McTiernan has said the following "I'll set it in Central Asia instead of way off in the future. I want the movie to take place in a spot where they don't have modern conveniences like the WWF.'' (CSO). This looks like it will be a very different film to the first. The ref to WWF makes me think that this time around they are going to play it up as a FAKE BLOODSPORT, not a REAL BLOODSPORT, or he could be just taking the piss.

Late Friday Night the 30th of July 99

I've just got back from the first day of BIFF screenings (Brisbane International Film Fest), I took in a couple of films including "Kingdom of the Shadows" (Docko on Early Horror) and "Go" (Well I'm a Sarah Polley fan see TRRP for case and point). I'll have a review up for KotS' in a day or two. My enjoyment was hampered because the cinema was stupid, it only had the speakers on the left side working for some dumb reason. I don't understand how a film festival in BRISBANE (Known to have the following screens to people ratio, 1:8000. That is the lowest in the world), a huge movie going public (It's hot and there are no beaches), and for some reason in all the cinemas in all of Birsbane, they use 5 for the Festival (Note even 10% of inner city screens) and one of them only has sound on the left.. Well that just blows. Well at least I'll get to see Larry Cohen later next week. Would have seen him tonight except the films cost a kings ransom when you only have a month to save for what you want. (Okay enuff bitching) I'll just like to add a thankyou to BIFF for putting Larry Cohen features on between 11pm and 4am.. But I'd also like to remind them that Brisbane city sleeps during the night, and there is nothing to do between 4 am and the first bus except sleep on the construction site that is the MALL. Sure this is only the 3rd BIFF.. The first turned me off attending the 2nd. It is likely unless a huge change is made the 3rd will turn me off the hassle of going to the 4th.

"TBWP" DVD will have 4-6 hours worht of footage including alternate endings, deleted scenes and the sci-fi channel special (yay I'll get to see it). If the film holds it's own this weeked the DVD might release as early as Halloween(DH). At which point I will buy it and own it before it hits Australia and I won't feel like Pirate scum. Also Greg Hale Producer has credited the internet by saying this about promotion, The Internet is a new medium, a new way of informing and entertaining people. ... The amazing thing about the Internet in relation to movies is that you can have a Web site that gives this new, added depth to your story. You can use the Web as an addition to your storytelling arsenal." (IMDB).

Tobe Hoopers next film is called "Flat Dog". It is about a bunch of kids who destroy crocodile eggs to find out that this action pisses off the mother.. The Mumma croc than decides the boys should be crushed like eggs. Frank Demartinis is Producing. (DRC)

Sommers will be directing "The Mummy 2". He will start in the Summer of y2k with hopes of release in 2001. Only a portion of the script will happen in London, with the majority being shot around the NILE and Egypt and Nubian Deserts. (CSO).

Peter Weller will be playing the role of THE DEVIL, in the upcoming film "Shadow Hours". Weller plays the coold kind of devil who wears Armani and drives a Porsche. The film will be written and directed by Isaac Eaton and stars Rebecca Gayheart, Brad Dourif, Richard Moll, Michael Dorn, Frederic Forrest, Johnny Whitworth and Richmond Arquette. (CSO)

Thursday the 29th of July 99

Spielberg has POLTERGEISTED "THE HAUNTING". Remember last time Spileberg let some direct a film under his banner that had ghosts in it. Well he has yet again stepped into re-arrange the work and polish up some of Jan's work on "The Haunting". Reported on several pages today including IMDB and CSO is the following... "Spielberg was said to be so dissatisfied by Jan De Bont’s intended first cut of the film that he "loudly berated" the director as well as "ripped him a new anatomy." Meanwhile, Marvin Levy, a D’Works marketing executive told the column, "That doesn't sound like Steven. He doesn't deal with people like that. He has respect for all filmmakers." Levy did reveal though that Spielberg did get involved in reshooting of key scenes as well as recutting others." Well aren't you glad you don't live with him. I'd like to place my bets that Spielberg approached Jan in a condescending way with comments more to the effect of "That's good but.. How about you try it like this...". On Poltergeist.. I know Spielberg helped out Tobe Hooper through a hard time in his life. I was just drawing on the ghost comparison.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is joining the cast of "Hannibal" (according to DH/CSO). I always wondered what SMG tasted like.. Oops that was in bad taste. That was even worse, that'll leave a bad taste in your mouth that joke. Well I hear Buffy Steaks are selling well. Flame Grilled Buffy Steaks.. Oh bad jokes.. The stand up comics will love this casting decision..

"Shadowman", a great conceptual comic that has been turned into a computer game where you are the hero who dies on earth and falls to hell, than dies in hell and goes to Earth in that never ending cycle. Acclaim are the ones who invented the comic and than, in turn, the computer game (Which looks to be the only 3rd person game worthy of buying this year). Takoma Entertainment is looking to turn it into a film. It is rumored to be written by Michael Henry Brown (Dead Presidents) and Paul Aaron( Producer / Writer / Director). Follows of the comic series will know that the upcoming comic "Unity 2000" will see the demise of the character. But will the game and the movie revive it?? SHADOWMAN GAME SITE (This has the very creepy cut scenes from the game)

Ernest Dickerson (DEMON KNIGHT: Tales From the Crypt) will be directing "Bones" fro New Line cinema. The film is based on a story by Tim Metcalfe (Kalifornia) and Adam Simon (Carnosaur). It is about a ghost that seeks revenge on his killers. It sound similar to Karloff's "The Walking Dead" or the contemporary film "The Crow", or the sequels to Friday the 13th. But instead of a Zombie you will get a ghost. Rapper Snoop Dogg might end up in this film. Which would go along nicley with his latest film clip about bedtime stories, that has ref's to Freddy Kruger, Mr Ghostface, Jason Voorhees, Werewolves etc.(DRC).

According to a scooper on Darkhorizons, DBS is not as bad as it looks in the trailer. It opened yesterday in the USA. Well the script writers are either, mental or genius's for figuring out how to get characters to go near water that has a killer shark in it.. Doing it for tourism (As In Jaws) is the only reason that might fit. I'll reserver my judgement till I see the film. Feel free to Email me your reviews of DBS or any other Horror films.

Wednesday the 28th of July 99

Samuel L. Jackson has said the following about the Sharks in DBS, "I mean, these sharks we built for the movie are big. One of them is bigger than my living room. Yes, they're animatronic, but they're amazing. They're free swimming. They dive. They attack. They bite. They rip and tear."(CSO)

Geoffrey Rush from "The House on Haunted Hill" has said the following about the cahracter he plays in the film, he is a "techno geek who decides the world is not scientific enough." Before long, though, he encounters something that doesn’t appear to be scientific at all. Rush explains, "To be honest, I spend the last 20 minutes of the film being chased by the Thing.". Joel Silver (producer) goes on to explain the kind of horror to expect in the film, "We've seen the success of the Scream movies, but now I think we're ready to take horror to the next level," Silver explained to Cinescape contributor Cindy Pearlman in her syndicated column. "I want to scare the adults in a spectacular way. I want to scare you with this movie the way you were scared as a kid when the monster showed up on the screen." Just what is it that adults want, according to Silver? "What they want is real fear."
. Oh yeah fear is usually a good part of horror.. But it aint the only part. (CSO).

Late Tuesday the 27th of July 99

Trailer for "Teaching Mrs. Tingle" released. HIRES (25.3mb), Lowres (12.9Mb). (LOEWES)

supermodel Amber Valletta will join Harrison Ford and James Remar in "What Lies Beneath". (CSO)

Tuesday the 27th of July 99

The Blair Witch Project is officially a juggernaught. It's second weekend of limited release saw the film take in 2 million dollars on 31 screens. That is an average of 64,500 dollars per screen.. Which in tunr makes 31 risk taking theatre owners very happy. That takes total taking in two weeks of limited release over the 4 million mark. This film is shaking down the big production houses as reported last week. And with good reason. This week it opens onto 1000 screens.. If it were to take half as much as it has been taking per cinema, the film is going to drown anything in it's wake and perhaps become the most successfull film (using cost against return/ rather than full box office) this year. The Witch has cast a spell over the USA and it could open up a new realm of horror film making. It has already proven the most important part of marketing, contact and access, works like a charm. Is it any wonder that certain studios and directors are now trying to open up to the internet public a bit more. It is afterall, the cheapest advertising of all. Congrats again, Ed and Dan, all those who have been following you since 98 will be thrilled to see your feature has gotten as far as it has.

Buffy regular villain SPIKE will be appearing in a Buffy/Angel crossover in the next season. From the mouth of JAmes MArsters who plays Spike, "They're going to put me in on episode three of Buffy and also a cross-over with Angel later at 9:00 that night. So, I'm going to come in and screw with Buffy at 8:00 that night and then I'm going to, hopefully, make life miserable for Angel."(CSO).

Angel series will be set in Hollywood's underbelly.. And has an uncanny resemblance to Buffy in character relation. Angel will fight demons with humna faces, whereas Buffy fights Vampires with human like faces. Angel will have the assistance of a half demon/ half human named Doyle (Glenn Quinn), whereas Buffy had the assistance of a nice old Vampire named Angel. Angel will get introduced to a new lve interest, Buffy will to. Okay so they aren't big things but they are things..

The Haunting managed to grab first position on the weekend taking 33 million. But I'm sure the next weekend may drop by more than 50%, I'd guess it might drop 75%.

Lake Placid took out 6th position at the box office in it's 2nd weekend, the takings amount to 5.5million.

Another picture from "The Bone Collector" has appeared on Darkhorizons.

The next Chris Carter (X-files) TV show will debut on October 8. I am talking of Harsh Realm that is at 9pm. The show will than switch from Friday night to a regular position of Sunday or Monday. (CSO)

Monday the 26th of July 99

It is very likely that the guys at HAXAN will be winning a bet with Artisan entertainment. The reward, a FOOSBALL TABLE. If you have been following the diary of the film, there was deal made, and talked about in Dan's Canne diary on INDIE WIRE, Dan said at the time "Now the odds are that this day will never come, but I still like the image of (Artisan's) Bill Block searching through a Valley Sports catalog looking for the best deal on a foosball table. I wonder what the Fed Ex limit is on stuff like that?". For them to get the Foosball table, the film (TBWP) must make 10 million at the Box Office, it has made 2 million in its first week of limited release. They are on their way.

James Woods will be signing on to "Hannibal" as the character Mason Verger, who is cheesed off at Hannibal because he went and fed his face to a dog.. So Mason in the book intends to kid nap Clarice (Foster) and lure Hannibal to a pack of wild carnivorous pigs. Now from that you can just see that this will not match up to "Silence of the Lambs". (DH)

Congratulations Mike Prosser and Co. who made "The Dividing Hour". Darkhorizons have finally picked up on your GREAT film. Hopefully this will cause your success to snow ball. I sent my review to Garth a while back but he didn't post it.. Anyhow, the last spotlight I did was on this film.. The other great INDIE horror flick of the year, "The Dividing Hour".

Saturday the 24th of July 99

HERE IT IS.. I Finally finished it.. It is a total spoof and exploration of TBWP. From an Australian perspective. A Horror Fan That has not yet seen the film.. Similar to the Blair Warner site.. But this one is bigger in some ways.. It contains a NEWS section as on the HAXAN site, with 30 newsletters from a try hard Aussie filmmaker (not Ed or Dan), that combines Road Rules with TBWP, and the illegal things he does to get it on the way. A Timeline. A Bios section. Links.. And of course hidden within the page is the JOURNAL of one of the characters (there are clues).. I don't think in the history of the internet there has been a spoof page quite as complete.. But just imagine TBWP set in Western Australia, with a celeb type cast on Road Rules. It is the ultimate blurring of reality.. Watch the filmakers journey from obscurity to notoriety and than watch them run from the law (see the NEWS). The Road Rules Project has taken me about 15-20 hours to construct making it the biggest ever HFA spotlight. I have had too put the SPOTlight somepalce else as all up the info is 2.5 meg. The page is located at http://members.xoom.com/trrproject . I trust you will have fun reading it and laugh in awe at the hidden commentary on REAL LIFE TELEVISION, etcetera. I can't wait for your feedback on TRRP. -GORE boy

"I Married a Witch" looks likely to be remade by director Ron Bass. It may in fact star Cruise and Kidman. It was original made in 1942.(CSO)

James Remar is joing the cast of "What Lies Beneath". (CSO)

Australian Siren Kimberly Davies is joining the cast of "Psycho Beach Party".(CSO)

Co-exec producer DAVID NUTTER speaks out about "Roswell", "First, what’s most important is to start with both feet on the ground. You’ve got to start somewhere believable. There are things in the pilot that have a wonderful believability about them, that stood out in that way. Those are things we really strive for. Another thing we have to strive for is not what we are going to do, but what are we not going to do. What are the traps we’re going to avoid? This is a show were we’re right on that thin razor line, where if we went too far in some directions, you’d lose an audience. We didn’t play to the lowest common denominator. We’re going with what’s fun, but what’s smart.". Well it sounds like to me this is a cover up for a show that could be silly. (CSO)

The Controversial "Earshot" episode of "Buffy" is set to air before the repeat of the season finales for season 4, which will be screened before the start of Season 5. Or in other words, no time soon. (CSO)

Elisabeth Rohm is joining the cast of "Angel" and maybe Angel's love interest is the new series. (CSO)

Burkittsville is getting a little worried about the publicity surrounding TBWP. They have lost there sign according to HAXAN NEWS.. And now the place is getting swamped with toursits, trying to see the Black Hills Forest. Which does not exist outside the town as it does in the film. Well be carefull not to ruin the movie by ruining a town. The local B'Ville cinema will not be showing the Film because of the realism and the terror it may spark in the community it was shot.(HO)

Friday the 23rd of July 99

As you may have or may not have heard. Wes Craven has released an official statement about the plot for Scream 3. Here it is in Wes's words. "We’ve started shooting July 6 and will continue through mid-September. The cast includes Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette, Parker Posey, Scott Foley, Matt Keeslar, plus a few surprisesAs many of you already know, the story revolves around the making of STAB 3: RETURN TO WOODSBORO. As for the rest of the plot, well, the movie will be in theatres December 10, 1999...". But the scariest news on the site is that Gloira Etefan and N'Sync will be performing songs for Wes's first non-horror film "Music of the Heart" (formerly 50 violins), the film is based on those violin players from harlem that you may have seen play behind Madonna at one MTV show. The best news is that Wes Craven has finally gotten around to bringing his site in 1999. Well the last update to it was in 98.

"The Blair Witch Project" will now open even WIDER.. It's wide release was to be originally 800 screens. By August 6, an additional 1000 screens will be showing the film. The Integral film looks set to reap huge rewards at the box office. Imagine what it will do on August the 13th (it is a FRIDAY). (CSO)

How is this for a visual.. "The Hollow Man" (Kevin Bacon) will gradually dissapear.. LAYER by LAYER. The Director Paul Verhoeven has said that it "won’t be like the old Invisible Man stuff, which was just a fade out. In this case, the process will start at the skin and gradually move back through the layers through organs finishing up on the skeleton before he’s gone." Now there is an effect I'd like to see.. It's and inverse Hellraiser (the original). (CSO)

Thursday the 22nd of July 99

Mcfarlaneguide.com has released the above pictures of the figurines from "Sleepy Hollow". Be carefull wnet looking at the page. I have been warned that it may contain spoilers from the film.

If you llive in LA I think you should become aware of a festival of Ray Harryhausens FX in film. It kicked off last night at the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences in B-Hills. 4.30pm today will see the good old Ray tredding the floor boards at the Vista theatre for a Q&A session. Tomorrow night will see Ray in attendance at a screening of "Jason and the Argonaughts". (CSO)

"Monster Island" the comic book about a couple of pilots that crash onto an Island that is filled with Monsters, that find out that the island is a zoo of sorts that is kept in check by aliens. Well this is another comic that might be making it's way to film. (CSO)

Finally it has beend confirmed that Steve Austin IS NOT IN SCREAM 3. Okay thanks for clearing that up WWF. (DH)

"GvsE" has faired nicely in the ratings acquring a 2.7 and an equal 32nd posi in the USA cable ratings.

"The Blair Witch Project" has not only scared audiences.. It has scared "DBS" into opening 2 days before the WIDER release of TBWP. It has scared "Mystery Men" to the week after the WIDE release. In it's wide release however TBWP faces some stiff adult contemporary romantic opposition in the Richard Gere/ Julia Roberts reteaming film that I can't be bothered naming because it looks only HA Ha funny.. Not LOL funny. (DH) Expect my HUGE GROUNDBREAKING HOMAGE TO TBWP (this is trully ground breaking I have an acrinymy for the site it is TRRP), BY SOMEONE WHO HAS NOT SEEN THE FILM BECAUSE IT HASN'T SCREENED IN OZ, ON SATURDAY. I would have had it sooner, but I learnt something today that I want to incoporate and I'm going on a ghost tour Friday night. But again. This will BE HUGE. or at least COOL KINDA.

"The 13th Warrior" has been pushed back to the 27th of august for it's release in the USA. (CSO)

Wednesday the 21st of July 99

Another very positive review has come out of an unlikely place for "The Blair Witch Project". It came from Universal's Horror Online, Chcek out there July News section.

Another serial killer movie is about to be on the loose. It is called "Top Ten" and it will be about a guy who is ranked 10 on the FBI's most wanted list who tries to work his way up to number 1. Warner Bros. will be making this film that will have parents up in arms for sure:) This info comes c/o Horror Online. The synopsis kind of reminds me of that killer in Frighteners.

"Buffy" the film is in scripting stages according to Corona and Horroronline. The synop so far, 'the current story-line favored has Buffy encountering 'The First', a super-omnipotent enemy who was first glimpsed in the third season of the TV series. In the movie's story-line something is killing off the vampires in Sunnydale - it's The First, and its making room for itself by eliminating all lesser evil and gathering the energy of the Hellmouth. It's up to Buffy and her friends to investigate the vampire threat and stop The First before it can take over the whole town.' . Well this will not on be THE FIRST Buffy tv series based film.. But I also want to question, will this be the first concept, that was FIRSTLY a Movie, than was turned into a tv series, that had the energy again to resurge on to the silverscreen??

The greenlinght has been give to the Sci-Fi cable series, "invisible Man". Production on the pilot begins next month. The pilot will be 2hours and is based on the HG Wells character. (CSO)

According to CSO "The Matrix" sequels will begin shooting some time next year and will include the actor known as Keanu.. He has been offered a small fortune I'm sure.. The film will again be shot in Australia.

Late Tuesday the 20th of July 99

HFA reserves a right to say, different films scare different people for different reason and no statistically prepared list will ever cover YOU as an individual. However if you would like to send me a list of your top ten and why, I'll gladly post it on the site some place.

  1. The Exorcist
  2. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
  3. Alien
  4. The Silence of the Lambs
  5. Halloween
  6. Jaws
  7. Psycho
  8. Seven
  9. The Shining
  10. Rosemary's Baby
  11. A Nightmare on Elm Street
  12. The Thing

You can go in and ROCK up the VOTE.. HERE. Do it qucikly this is for the 23rd's issue. If the film you think is the scariest is not there.. And MINE isn't.. You can go to there MESSAGEBOARD and tell them, the board is moderated and calling peopel IDIOTS for liking one film more than another is offensive and will get your comment trashed (u may need to be a subscriber to use MSGBOARD)... You want TBWP or whatever. The Hollywood Stock Exchange is also getting in on the act trying to find out what people think is the scariest film of all time. HSX. WARNING your data will be used by Hollywood to make more of what they think scares the MAJORITY:)

A new review for Deep Blue Sea has appeared on DH. Read it here.

Tuesday the 20th of July 99

Marc Silvestri (Ronin) will be making the "Witchblade" tv series comic project come to life on our sets, but not in the same way as Xena or Hercules, he will attempt serious tv making.

Salon online magazine has accussed "The Blair Witch Project" hype of being FAKE. The accusations stem from the amount of FAN SITES (20) and the fact it had a USENET group and positve buzz around Yahoo (one of the 5 biggest Internet networks globally). The article even accuses Dan and Ed (the directors) of reviewing their own film under pseudonyms. Also says that Ed and Dan hada hand in putting together some of these fan-sites.. Well I'm putting one together, all that they have given me is inspiration. What the author of this article Patrizia DiLucchio needs to understand is that a lot of people have been captured by the way the film has pushed it's way from being independent, TO HOLLYWOOD. Being able to keep up with developments through HAXAN news and other forums. I'm in Australia so I won't see the film for a long time yet. It's not just seeing the film it's the lead up to it. Read the Article HERE. If you want to point a finger look at some of the NEWS pages owned byt production compannies, the GO network was just purchased by Disney, who controls Horror Online (Universal). The Aritcle even goes on to say that A&e were toped into this MIND game for FAME :). The Article basically goes on to slam anyone that has ever promoted a film and got some mild kick-back for doing it. The article is titled "Did the Blair Witch Project" fake its online fan base? It offers no answer because it is ALL UNWARRANTED SPECULATION from a wannabe NET journalist. Does anyone smell that Irony.. YUCK.

Monday the 19th of July 99

New Pictures for Teaching Mrs. Tingle have arrived online care of that great page DH. Garth comments on how it has something for every male. But will the controversey surrounding this film draw a curtain on the film quickly as was the case with "Idle Hands". It is hard to tell at this stage. But if you look at the picture at the top Left you can't help but say to your self, "there will be protests over what those students are doing to that poor teacher." (DH)

We wake to find what we knew would happen. "The Blair Witch Project" opened in 27 cinemas in its limited release (before wide release on the 30th) to huge Box office success. On average at each of the 27 cinemas TBWP took $57,700.oo on the weekend alone. That is a little over 6 times the amount of revnue that Eyes Wide Shut took in each of it's cinemas. The WITCH managaged to take nearly 2 million in opening weekend at my estimate. (DH) The Haxan guys have been signed over to UNCLE Rupert's FOX network with a 2 year deal to produce a younger hipper X-Files type show. EXPECT THE HFA tribute in at most 2 DAYS.

"Lake Placid" entered this week (wide release) with a total of 10.2 million, taking out 4th place.. (DH)

The trailer for "A Stir of Echoes" is now available it is a 8.1 meg download.

Saturday the 17th of July 99

Regina Hall (Love and Basketball) is likely to get the lead role in the dimension spoof/cash in, "Scream If You Know What I Did Last Halloween". (CSO)

Friday 16th of July 99

I just found this on "Upcoming Horror Movies" it is about another plot rundown for "Freddy Vs. Jason", "Freddy Vs. Jason" Plot: I got an email from one of my sources with the plot for "Freddy Vs. Jason" earlier today. Now I'm not sure if this is the actual plot, so don't be surprised if it's just a hoax. Here's what he had to say. The film takes place in there "real" world, as in Jason and Freddy are both movie characters. However there is a copycat killer going around imitating Freddy. A teenager girl is attacked by this copycat but is saved by her boyfriend Jason. But she begins to be attacked by Freddy in her dreams. Oddly enough the dreams take place at Crystal Lake and she is saved each time by none other then Jason Voorhees. See how upset she is and knowing about her dreams the girls friends take her to the real Crystal lake in the hopes that it will calm her down. As it turns out the copycat killer is actually Freddy's henchman in the waking world and Jason Voorhees isn't only a movie monster." Well at least they're not ripping off my crappy idea, that you'll find in the "Crap I Wrote" section. Yet again will this just be another ride for fans of the NEW LINE merchandise spinner.

A couple of Pictures have turned up from "The Bone Collector" of Angelina Jolie (Hackers). And she looks like she is wearing police overalls and climbing out of a sewer, Hollywood is so glamourous. (DH)

More casting for "Scream 3" has appeared on DH (and Variety) the news is that Emily Mortimer ("Ghost and the Darkness"), Patrick Dempsey ("Outbreak", "Fast Times", "lover Boy") and horror veteran Lance Henriksen ("Aliens", "Near Dark", "Millenium", Nature of the Beast", Wes Craven's Mindripper/ The Outpost, Man's Best Friend", "house 3", "Pumpkinhead", "The Terminator", "Piranha II", Omen II, Close Encounters of the 3rd kind, Tales From the Crypt, Nightmares, Alien 3, The Visitor, Mansion of the Doomed) have all signed onto the project which is currently shooting. Also TV sitcom actor Deon Richmond (Trippin') is set to be a role in "Stab 2".(DH)

A poster from "The Green Mile" the lastest adaption of a Stephne King series by Frank Darabont. If you haven't read the screenplay and you have read the books, I suggest you check out the screenplay at www.screentalk.org (it is brilliant) or in the meantime check out the poster below. Unfortunately because it is a photo I can't make out the tagline. but it'll be out at Christmas.

According to HO "Crow: The Salvation" is due for an October release in the US, however the sequel may release as late as December or March 2000. (HO)

Jan De Bont will be tackling another horror film in the near future under FOX's watchfull eye. It will be called "The Adaptive Ulitmate" which is based on the short story by Stanley G. Weinbaum. It is about a scientist who conducts experiments on a dying homeless woman. The experiment works giving the woman unlimited adaptability. Than she goes out of ocntrol.. The film is obviously going to be the good old Mad Scientist routine re-HASHED.. Frankensteins monster style, more than "Pretender" style.

According to HO ," Haxan Films creators Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez (the directors of "Blair") have inked a two-year development deal with Fox and Regency's television divisions,". Hollywood reporter is also saying that Artisan and the guys will be estatic with the opening weeks gross considering the amount Artisan bought the film for (1.1mill).

"Quills" has had another cast member named. Kate Winslett will play the Marquis DeSarde's (Geoffrey Rush) maid in the film who will serve him in more ways than one. Winslett will appear quite naked in the film which will be directed by Phillip Kaufmann (Henry and June). The film will likely get an NC-17 or R rating in the US.. According to DH.

A new poster for "The Haunting" appeared at DH.

A script review of Andrew Kevin Walker (Brainscane, se7en) script for Tim Burton's "Sleepy Hollow" has been posted on DH HERE.

Acouple of other reviews have appeared on Darkhorizons.

One is the upcoming Possession flick (very like SPecies 2) "The Astronaught's Wife" HERE.

The other is of "The Bone Collector" HERE.

"The Mummy" (242 screens) was knocked back to 2nd position this week (the lowest of it's three week rein). The Mummy has taken 1.8 mill last week in Oz, taking it's total up to 12.6 million. IT was beaten into first place by .6 mill by Entrapment. "Gods and Monsters" took 89 thousand this week, taking it's total takings over the last 3 weeks to .5 million but the film is in very limited release, it was hard for me to find a cinema with it on down here to see it (23 screens). However Gods and Monsters still managed to stay "top 20" keeping in at 15. Keep in mind that Star Wars is still showing on 323 screens in it's sixth week down here and only managed to get 1.7 mill this week. School holidays were not on in the northern states last week. However they began down south.

Heather Donahue has revealed in an interview with the New York Post that "The Blair Witch Project" had no real script. So she "got on Amazon.com and ordered all these witchcraft books, survival books, filmmaking books. I gave myself this whole crash course." Well who amazon need little promotion as it is trading on the Stock Market as the second/ third biggest site world wide.. But we get an insight on how it was to hang out with the boys on the set in this interview. "You never realize how much you need to just see another girl once in a while, just see one. Men, they just have a different way of functioning, especially when they're in a pack. You've got fart jokes galore. And not that I don't enjoy a good fart joke - but every once in a while you're just like, ‘Damn I'd just like to put on a little lipstick.’"

The television version of "Sleepy Hollow" produced by Robert Halmi will be directed by Pierre Gang. The feature is also likely to star Tony award winning actor, Brent Carver. (CSO)

"Arlington Road" reviews came in today on DH. The one I liked was mainly negative but had a great contrast "It's like Rosemary's Baby, only about gun-toting rednecks next door." Arlington Road opens this year in Australia as the final film in the Brisbane International film festival tickets are approximately 15 bucks (more for after show party). Expect a celeb or two to be at this premiere. This film is written by Ehren Kruger, the guy who took over where Kevin Williamson left off in writing Scream 3.

"Deathrace 2000" by Roger Corman looks like it will be remade into a film starring Tom Cruise and directed by "Boogie Nights" director Thomas Anderson from a script written by J.F. Lawnton. The project will be titled Death Race 3000. (CSO)

More pic's of the monster of the moment.. Toho's Godzilla 2000. (CSO)

Hollyweird, is not as dead as it was.. The one time Shaun Cassidy/ Wes Craven project is being ressurected by the USA network as a made for TV film.. It will be written by Millenium (the TV show) writers, Kay Reindl, Erin Maher and Cassidy (who created American Gothic (tv series). (CSO)

Catherine Zeta Jone and Liam Neeson have both spoken out about "The Haunting" albeit prmotional ho-hum some may find it interesting. Jones said "couldn't have been more charming. I'd heard all these stories about him being more interested in the effects than the actors, and I came on board prepared. But he was great with all of us, and really went out of his way to cast it with actors who wouldn't be happy just running around a house of horror. And he also was very open to changes, so I was really impressed." she went on to say, "[The Haunting is] gonna be really scary. It's not one of those teen-slasher-type horror films that's full of jokes and winking at the audience. It's very serious and it really gets to you." This is the basic kind of thing you would expect and actor say, the film WILL be scary, it was GREAT to work on... Neeson was more on the it was GREAt to work on vibe "In a way, it was easier with The Haunting. There was very little blue screen work I had to do, even though there are very extraordinary special effects. It seemed like a walk in the park compared to shooting The Phantom Menace." (CSO)

Eduardo Sanchez and Daniel Myrick (Directors of "The Blair Witch Project") are being approached on all sides by execs according to Cinescape Online. Tv networks are also among those trying to reach them. Including a "hipper, younger X-Files" as Myrick explained to the San Fran Chronicle, "A lot of people want to work with us. Whether we can do that or not, I don't know. But we're going to try." (CSO)

Monday the 12th of July 99

New "End of Days" picture and poster appeared on Darkhorizons.

According to DH and the Sydney Morning Herald. The sequels to "The Matrix" will again be filmed in Sydney, Australia, at Fox Studios Pyrmont and the CBD. The deal was sealed on Friday and has reportedly cost for both sequels 100 million. Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow will jointly fund the films. The films will be shot back to back with the possibility of their release dates being as little as 3 months apart.

"Vampires Anonymous" is currently being shot around the Burlington-Graham SnowCamp areas of NC. It is about a vampire 12 step program to giving up the folly of most vamps.. The Bloodsucking. It stars Michelle Stafford (young and the restless), Paul Popowich (The Club, Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveler, 90210, Pirates of Silicon Valley)and Steve Monroe(an ep of "The Visitor" and Can't Hardly Wait, production designer of "Breakfast of Aliens"). The film is directed by Michael Keller (assistant director on American History X).

Here is something spooky from the PC Game Need For Speed: High Stakes. It was sent to me by Silver Sepp. If you played #3 in the Need For Speed Series you may have noticed a whole bunch of horror references during the game. I personally love the game and tested this out an yep there it was.. Very Spooky. It isn't as blatant as the sign for Crystal Lake.. But here is the picture I'm ranting about. It's on a snow pough on the final of the NEW tracks.

New poster for "The Blair Witch Project".

Saturday the 10th of July 99

Denzel Washington has paid very handsome rewards to the people that rub him down while he plays a bed Ridden detective in "The Bone Collector". Washington has had to spend up to 15 hours a day in bed for the roll in this movie.. Now remember that Angelina Jolie is also in this film so being in bed all that time can not be all that bad. The film is being direcvted by Australian Phillip Noyce (Dead Calm, The Saint).(CSO)

Nicholas Brendon (xander from Buffy) is joining the cast of "Psycho Beach Party" based on the off broadway play by Charles Busch. The story centers on a 'schizophrenic girl (Lauren Ambrose of "Can't Hardly Wait") suspected of committing a string of murders.'. It will also star Matt Keeslar, Thomas Gibson and Andrew Levitas. (HO)

"The Haunting" has cost 73-75 million, the house set cost 8-10 million dollars to make. DeBont justifies this by saying."[I]t is a lead in the movie," says De Bont. "It's like you pay a big actor. Our production designer (Eugenio Zanetti) designed this incredibly complex house. Nobody felt very at home on the set. Nobody stayed there long after shooting was over. It wasn't scary during the daylight scenes. When you light it really nice, it actually looks quite beautiful. The moment you start taking the light away, it becomes very oppressive, and the dark corners start (to look) like there are a lot of hidden secrets in there." DeBont also went on about "The Haunting" to say "a very original approach to the horror movie. It's not the type of slasher (film) we've seen in the past couple years. It's much more like an adult horror movie, which takes itself extremely serious, but at the same time there's a lot of humor in it. It's more like the excitement you have in movies like The Shining or Rosemary's Baby or The Exorcist, where a lot of surprises happen." Another piece of commentary that I found interesting, "When I heard DreamWorks was developing this with Susan Arnold and Donna Roth, I thought this was great. I called them right away (to say), 'This is the type of movie I would really like to direct.' They got very excited by that. We met with Steven (Spielberg) and they said, 'Let's do it together.' And, of course, they wanted it right away!" (CSO)

Friday the 9th of July 99 (sorry for yesterday, there were some problems at fortunecity that disabled some of my directories.)

Bridgette Fonda has told the Calgary sun that she "loved horror films since she was a child. My favorite was the "Giant Behemoth"" she than went on to say "I love the fact that with "Lake Placid" we're setting out to scare an audience. Because it's a David E. Kelley script, there's also a great deal of subversive humor." (CSO)

Angela Bettis has joined the cast of the supernatural thriller "Bless the Child" which already stars, Christina Ricci, Kym Basinger and Jimmy Smitts. (CSO)

Tony Todd (Candyman)emailed Horror Online that he will be joining the cast of "Slice" (directed by Mark Pavia of Nightflier fame), the film will go in front of the cameras in August. It will co-star Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes) and Jason Miller (Father Karras from "The Exorcist"). What a great horror cast this film is gonna be a cult thing for sure.

Thursday the 8th of July 99

The Wayans borthers (Marlon, Keenen- Ivory, Shawn) parody of scream "Scream if You Know What I Did Last Halloween", has announced that Shannon Elizabeth (American Pie) will join the cast as a female antagonist named Tanya, who will make life hell for a character called Buffy Gellar.. Oh ha.. I'm laughing already.. no stop it really ha.. (CSO)

There will be one villain in "Spawn 2" and that will be a serial killer.. Todd expects the next film to take a darker more suspense driven style, with less FX (with an R rating). McFarlane explains the regrets of the last film "One thing that I am adamant about is that the reason why Frankenstein, Dracula and The Wolf Man were successful was because when they came out, they were the only thing that was out of the ordinary." He adds, "In hindsight, by the time you have the Devil, the demon, the Violator and the Clown, you have no uniqueness to your character. So what I am doing is stripping them all away and there's only going to be one unique thing: our guy Spawn. He's going to be pushed in the shadows. He's going to be like the Bogey Man."

Steve Miner has admitted good planning is the reason that "Lake Placid" came in under 30 million in production costs. And owes a debt of gratitude to the Croc Builders Stan Winston and Digital Domain. Studios were weary about shooting near water and the possibility of a ballooning budget, but after seeing Miners Dawson Creek work just kidding.. But really due to great planning the film mangaed not to go in the 100 million bracket of Summer film production. The bad thing about this film is really that the idea looks as original as Bread and butter, you just put a different spread over it. (CSO)

In an interview with Eon magazing Ehren Kruger has stated this "Miramax asked me to do some work on Scream 3. Kevin Williamson had turned in an outline for it, but felt he was too over taxed to go forward. They showed it to me and told me to take what I liked from it and discard what I didn't and fashion a screenplay. So I have been working on that for the last few weeks." (CSO)

Stephen Sommers (director of THe Mummy and Deep Rising) is beginnign work on a TOP SECRET project for Universal knonw as the CG project. But by all account by guess is that the CGI Frankenstein project. ILM will be creating the FX.

Sommers has said of the sequel to "The Mummy" (Mummy was #1 for the second week in a row in Australia, it has taken 9.3 million all up with 2.6 last week), "It wouldn’t be until two or three years – it’s going to take a long time. They’re big movies and we would want to do it right. If we do a sequel, it has to be as good or better than the original. The studio is right behind us. We don’t want to crank out a lame ass sequel. We really want to do something great and take things to the whole next generation of special effects." this was in an interview with Eon. (CSO)

Horroronline has bought in to question whether or not Heath Ledger (Two Hands, Roar) will be playing the role of the Vampire Lestat in the sequel to "Interview with a Vampire", which will bea combination of "The Vampire Lestat" and "Queen of the Damned" as he has taken a role in "The Patriot" which is a American Civil War film that will also star Mel Gibson (2 Australian like folk in a Civil War film.. ??). (HO)

BIFF announces films.. Still no sign of "The Blair Witch Project".. BIFF. film-making.

"TWO HANDS" official site has opened at www.twohands.com.au . Go there it's funky. There is a downloadable trailer.. But the trailer isa n real media file that is not streaming.. To see them please check the site I have posted plenty of pictures from the film so far, and the trailer has been released, I think that you would have the general Idea by now. More casting for Scream 3 has appeared on DH and scream-trilogy.com they are Scott Foley (Dawson's Creek, Felicity), and Matthew Keeslar (Urban Folk Tales/ Last Days of Disco). Scott will play a young hip video-clip director ala- Hype Williams?? I guess we'll have to wait and see?

7th of July Wednesday

It's official Stone Cold Steve Austin has been given a HELL YEAH to enter the cast of "Scream 3". Wrestlers have had their place in horror remember Roddy Piper in "They Live". The above has been confirmed on HO. Other actor to join according to HO are Eliza Dushku (Buffy/ True Lies), Ethan Erickson (Buffy for a couple of eps and Jawbreaker) and Kate Hudson (200 ciggys). (HO)

| Steve Austin | Kate Hudson | Eliza Dusku |

Robert Masciantonio has said the following about his latest script Gargoyles, "It's a story about revenge...inner conflicts with a dash of love thrown in. It centers around Brandon right after the accidental death of his five year old son. I wanted it to be on the darker side along the lines of "The Crow." There are also elements of Frank Miller's "Batman: Year One." Obviously, I don't want to tell too much of the story at this point.", Masciantonio goes on to mention the cast he would like Dimension films to get for him "If they (Dimension) decide to go with it, I want to get rolling as soon as possible. I already have a few (thespians) in mind; David Boreanaz, Kristy Swanson, James Marsters, Christian Campbell, Katie Holmes, James Caan...Tom Savini is on to do the special make-up effects and possibly also make a cameo.". Robert has a love of the genre that I hope will keep his work genre based. Look forward to other works by Robert including the highly anticipated "Cold Hearts" and the sequel to Cold Hearts and Lost Boys, "Lost Boys 2: The Coldest of Hearts" which will go under his pen. (HO)

6th of July 99 Tuesday (just saw "Gods and Monsters" WOW!!)

Two Hands

19 films have been entered into the AFI (Australian Film Industry) awards. Gregor Jordan's "Two Hands" and (writer of CUT and director of KISS OR KILL) Bill Bennet's "In a Savage Land" starring Rufus Sewell the film is set on the brink of WWII in PnG.. These are two horror worthy pick's. The nominations will be announced on the 13th of October and the ceremony will be conducted at FOX studio's Pyrmont, and be broadcast live on SBS 13th Novemeber. The thing that strikes me as discomforting, is the low number of films that have been made in Australia this year. There is only 19. If you paid your 49.95 AFI fee this year, you get to see all 19 films free at special screenings more info at urban cinefile.

BIFF (Brisbane International Film Festival) will be held between 29th of July and the 8th of August, this year. The films will be announced on the 8th of this month and posted, pray for horror, fans.. Pray for the Witch.. :)

Talk of a sequel to "The Blair Witch Project" has begun with interview between Ed Sanchez and Dan Myrick at the Creative Screenwriting webpage. The conclusion is that the sequel if made will not be done in the same style as "it would be compared too closely to the original.". WARNING SPOILERS are contained on the screenwriting page.

More on Scream 3 as shooting begins tomorrow. Not much in the way of casting has been said but according to kevinwilliamson.com, Claire Daines (Mod Squad)has been scene around the casting office. About the story, well Sidney is now going to be more stand-offish when it comes to guys (well the las to boyfriends she had well they aren't alive, once it was Bond Girls, Maybe Prescott Boys). There is the likelyhood of more female characters and a gay male friend to replace Randy (Will this gay friend be anything like the one in Bride of Chucky??). Other actors named on kw.com are, Nicholas Brendon (who plays Xander on Buffy). But I still expect this film to rotate more around the most evil character in the series so far "Gale Weathers", if this had been any other horror series the reporter would have been dead by the end of the 2nd act. Even film-makers believe in justice?

5th of July 99 Monday

Yet again the Steve Austin in "Scream 3" rumour has popped up.. 'Steve Austin is apparently going to play a big part in Scream 3, the sequel to the ever so popular horror series, playing a policeman to be the partner of main character "Dewey".' (thanks to my brother for the tip). This came from a Austin fansiter www.wwf316.net and is still really a rumour, wainting on official word. But imagine Austin saying to Mr Ghostface "Gimme a Hell Yeah!" and than looking down to see a dagger protruding from his stomach, followed by Roger Jackson's voice coming from a mobile Austin is carrying "Hell Yeah.".. Oh.. More when sick sad world continues. In other Scream news. Two teenagers (Mario Padilla 17 and Samuel Ramirez 15) who have tried to pass the buck on the murder of Padilla's mother and Gina Costillo in January of 98. The Two teens were unable to use the "Scream" series as a scape goat for there murder rampage as the judge barred any reference to the films that might be introduced as evidence. Obviously the judge saw the irony the films used and the teens tried to pull it passed him only to admit there guilt as premeditated.

Incidently, "The Mummy" won at the box office in Australia during it's second week. Puching Austin powers, Star Wars and Notting Hill from the top spots. It gained 1st position after being put in the smaller cinemas at Multiplexes, with piss weak sound, now tell me that horror is dead again. The First week "The Mummy" entered at 3th on advanced screening tickets alone. Note: School holidays in Australia currently.

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) were appauled by the treatment of crocodiles at a recent premiere of "Lake Placid". Six Crocs escorted Bridgett Fonda to the premiere dressed in Tux's with their mouths taped shut. A spokesperson from PETA said, "Just because these reptiles don't have fur and just because they are not warm and fuzzy, and can't vocalise their discomfort, using them as props for a movie premiere is just unacceptable. You don't have to be fond of reptiles to see how wrong it is to dress them in these demeaning costumes and even worse tape their mouths shut." (CSO)

According to HO Dreamworks are working on another Haunted house epic called "We Have Always Lived in the Castle." Mark Kruger (who worked with Bill Condon as writer of Candyman 2: Farewell to the Flesh) will be writing the script, while Jack Rapke and Robert Zemeckis will produce it. It is based on the Shirley JAckson novel (HO is claiming to be getting a an interview with Shirley Jackson but from all accounts she is dead.). The plot in a nutshell "A family lives alone in a sprawling estate, despite the fact that four of them have died of mysterious arsenic poisoning. Everything seems to be tolerable until a distant relative arrives, asking questions no one wants to hear the answers to." (HO) This will be the 3rd Jackson novel turned into a horror film, The others being "The Haunting of Hill House" and recently (1996) "The Lottery" starring Keri Russell... Shirley Jackson Died on August 8 1965 according to IMDB, she was born 14th od December 1916 in San Francisco. (HO)

According to www.halloweenmovies.com and a source at DH. "Halloween 8" is in the works and may revert to the original idea of John Carpenter's. That is to make free standing films without the common Michael Myers character. So it will be similar to Season of the Witch. OR they could bring Michael back.. Who knows maybe it wasn't Michael in H20, he wasn't dressed the same and he didn't move the same.. Maybe Michael was really like Jason in Friday the 13th 5?? Who knows. Halloween movies.com has provided a discussion page on the topic at HERE. (DH)

CSO posted a picture of Godzilla 2000 showing the creature free standing and is clearer than previous pictures of the lizard.. Can't wait to see the city modelling and the UFO.

More pictures of Hangman's Daughter made there way to CSO. Here are the new pictures.

Gary Felder (Kiss the Girls) will be directing "Impostor" (or is it "Imposter"*). It is a based on one of the stories that will no longer be contained within the "Alien Love Triangle" film currently in production. The film was one of the stories contained within the anthologies until the brothers Weinstein thought otherwise and changed it into a feature. It will likely star Gary Sinise, Madeleine Stowe, Vincent D'Onofrio and Tony Shalhoub. Sinise will portray and engineer that invents a weapon that could kill off an invading alien race. However in pure Twilight Zone/ Outer Limits fashion the tide turns on the engineer who's human characteristics are question. (CSO) Imdb is listing that it went into production the 6th of June.

* the reason I ask is that CSO has it er, whereas IMDB lists it as or.
