William Donahue Catholic rights campaigner in the US that has brought you
things like the DELAYED RELEASE OF DOGMA is also now having a dig at Stigmata because it could be "a vehicle
for making a political attack on the Catholic Church." Tamara Collings
a research analyst for Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, the
place that Donahue represents, has passed on her dislike of the film to
her boss. It is unknown if Donahue has seen the film but he said and I'm
quoting CSO, , "MGM risks attenuating its prestige by backing such
an outlandishly gory and insidious film as Stigmata. The idea that salvation
can best be achieved by rejecting the Catholic Church is an old and very
tired idea. The good news is that there exists a small audience for such
an exploitative film, and all the hype and technical effects in the world
can do nothing to redeem this bomb of a movie.". I think that maybe
Donahue should become a film critic.. Dammit it is only a MOVIE.. For godsake..
MGM did not rewrite the bible. People can tell the difference between fiction
and whatever the Bible is. Next you'll be attacking Lost SOuls and End of
Days.. Look out Hollywood. Soon the MAFIA will be wanting a nicer reputation
in films (no Mafia church link intended just saying). (CSO). |

The "Stigmata" official site has now opened along with the change in
its release date. It was to originally open on the 9th of July now it will
open on August 27. The page reinforces the "Excorcist" look and
feel about the film.. It is not in an all that advanced stage at this moment
though. But the POSTER for the film has arrived on that site. And it is
really very boring.. There are quite a few stills posted on the page.. But
mostly it is page that tries to drench itself in mystery. Hey I'm not the
messenger.
Jonathan Demme might turn down the directorial status of "Hannibal" (sequel to Silence of the Lambs)
becasue the film would be too violent. So far both Hopkins and Foster are
still onboard. |

I jsut thought I'd remind people of a movie due for release in JULY in
the USA... There seems to have been a bit of silence over it lately.. It
is in the vein of "The Excorcist" I tis called "Stigmata"
and is sure to piss off the church or just reinforce their concept of GOOD
and EVIL. Anyway here are some pictures from way back at teh start of the
year.. Still waitng for the Trailer for this one.. If you have it.. Or know
where to find it.. please E-Mail me. Yes that is Patricia Arquette and Gabriel
Byrne (Burning).
